Boxes Fonts: The End of America’s Spelling Curse?

Posted in Box Fonts on November 17th, 2010 by admin – 4 Comments

Boxes Fonts: The End Of America's Curse? America has a problem with spelling: most Americans can’t spell right.  The problem affects children in low income areas as well as adults in affluent neighborhoods.  The Department of Education has created numerous Task Forces to fight this endemic problem. And the conclusion is clear: we have to start from preschool building students’ spelling skills.  Spelling needs to be part of the curriculum as a core subject.

Several options have been addressed by government and educators alike. One of them is the use of boxes fonts.  Teachers have realized that students in the early grades acquire handwriting and spelling skills as they learn letter from, shape, space and proportion with ease.  In their opinion, box fonts seem like the ideal tool to instill in students’ the need and obligation to learn spelling.

Most academic tasks in college require immaculate spelling, from emails to professors to essays and exams.  If you are not able to spell correctly, you are bound to menial jobs.  Some educators have been trying with moderate success the use of fonts in boxes for years.  The idea is to standardize that approach, professionalize it and evaluate periodically.

And what do you think?  Leave a post with your opinion.
